The US is Vietnam’s largest export market, accounting for around 28-30% of total exports. Exports to the US rose from 450 million USD in 1995 to nearly 210 billion USD in 2025, averaging 17% annual growth.

“Vietnam now enjoys huge advantages as global supply chains are being restructured. This presents a major opportunity for Vietnamese goods and services to reach global markets, particularly the US,” said Hoang Diep Truc, CEO of Citizen Pathway Investment.

However, exporters also face challenges, including tariffs, stricter rules of origin, supply-chain traceability requirements, and higher technical, product safety, environmental and labor standards.

“Vietnamese businesses exporting to the US need to pay close attention to the origin of their goods. This requires transparent documentation, even a supply-chain map, to demonstrate the origin and transparency of their records if any issues arise. This will help build trust with business partners,” said An The Dung, former trade counsellor in the US and UK.

The US is a large, high-quality market, so success there can help Vietnamese businesses expand globally.
