At a meeting in Hanoi on Thursday with Cristiano Amon, President and CEO of the US technology giant, the Vietnamese top leader welcomed Qualcomm’s decision to place Vietnam high in its development strategy in Asia, saying the move aligns with efforts to deepen cooperation in science, technology and innovation under the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Mr. Lam urged the company to help Vietnamese firms strengthen their technological capabilities and participate more deeply in global technology value chains and supply networks.
Amon said Qualcomm regards Vietnam as an increasingly important market and technology hub in Asia and aims to make Vietnam its third-largest global AI research and development center.
With more than 100 billion USD invested in R&D worldwide, Qualcomm plans to expand cooperation in Vietnam in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, 5G and 6G, connected computing and next-generation technology infrastructure.
Amon expressed the company’s desire to deepen its long-term investment and presence in Vietnam, while working with Vietnamese agencies, businesses, research institutions and universities to develop high-quality talent, transfer technology and advance next-generation technologies.
He also said Qualcomm would contribute to building Vietnam’s semiconductor, AI and innovation ecosystems in the years ahead.
