Deputy PM Tra told a review meeting in Hanoi on Monday that Vietnam is experiencing a rapid rate of population aging and called for a significant shift in mindset, so that the elderly will truly be regarded as a vital driving force for socio-economic development.

She emphasized the need to create a favorable environment for healthy, capable elderly individuals who wish to continue working and contributing to society. A key task she particularly highlighted was sustainably, fully, and comprehensively developing and promoting the “silver economy” ecosystem coupled with national economic development goals.

“Now more than ever, we must raise awareness and enhance responsibility regarding work related to the elderly in the new context. We need to bring about a genuine shift in the mindset of the political system and society at large—moving beyond mere care and support—to truly affirm the elderly as a national development resource and a driving force for the country's rapid and sustainable growth. I consider this a top priority for changing perceptions and fostering positive transformation amidst the current trend of rapid population aging,” Deputy PM Tra said.

The Deputy Prime Minister called for the continued refinement of policies to adapt to population aging; the improvement of geriatric hospital, rehabilitation, and healthcare systems; and the electronic health records for the elderly nationwide.
