The nationwide anti-IUU campaign will run from August 15 to September 15, 2026, focusing on the registration, inspection and licensing of fishing vessels; the operation of Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) equipment; port controls; and fishing data databases and seafood traceability.
Vo Van Hung, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment, emphasized that combating IUU fishing and securing the removal of the EC’s “yellow card” warning are key political tasks, closely linked to Vietnam’s reputation and the sustainable development of its fisheries sector.
“Our objective is clear: to address existing shortcomings and fully and substantively implement the EC’s recommendations. We must demonstrate our commitment through concrete enforcement results, transparent data, verifiable records, and actual fishing activities at sea and throughout the seafood supply chain,” said Mr Hung.
“Removing the warning is not only about trade; it is also about affirming Vietnam’s capacity and responsibility in fisheries management, protecting marine resources, safeguarding fishermen’s long-term livelihoods, enhancing the reputation of Vietnamese seafood, and fulfilling the responsibilities of a maritime nation deeply integrated into the international community, ” he added.
