At a recent weekend event, families and students brought used cans, plastic bottles, cardboard, and scrap metal to the Co To Trade Center in exchange for gifts.
Nguyen Minh Anh, a student at Co To Primary and Secondary School, said she brought beer cans and plastic bottles from home to exchange for two packets of seasoning powder. “I’m very happy to do something to protect the environment.”
In September, border guards and local officials visited fishing boats to urge fishermen to refrain from dumping solid waste into the sea, but to bring it ashore for proper disposal. Ten trash bins were placed at the port to make waste collection easier.
