The move marks a significant step in developing the Coast Guard into a revolutionary, standardized, elite, and modern force. The platoon is tasked with improving the overall quality, strength, and mission-execution capabilities of the Coast Guard Region 3 Command, safeguarding sovereignty and maintaining maritime security, order, and safety.

Just two days earlier, on August 4, the Coast Guard Region 4 Command (based in the Phu Quoc Special Zone, Kien Giang Province) announced the decision to establish an unmanned vehicle platoon.

This specialized force plays a crucial role in enhancing capabilities regarding reconnaissance, surveillance, patrol, control, and information gathering. They will also support search and rescue operations, natural disaster prevention, and the fight against smuggling, commercial fraud, illegal fishing, and carry out other maritime tasks.
