At a conference in Hanoi on Wednesday, Lieutenant General Bui Quoc Oai, Party Secretary and Political Commissar of the Vietnam Coast Guard, said the force would continue to strengthen leadership to ensure strict implementation of duty rosters at all levels while closely monitoring security and national sovereignty in Vietnam's maritime areas.

He said the Coast Guard would place particular emphasis on intensifying efforts to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, while improving oversight of projects and infrastructure works to ensure they are completed on schedule and meet quality standards.

During the first six months of 2026, the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and the Coast Guard Command directed the force to carry out its assigned tasks comprehensively and effectively, with several key objectives completed ahead of expectations.

The force maintained a high level of combat readiness and worked closely with relevant agencies to monitor developments at sea, preventing unexpected security incidents.

It also carried out public awareness campaigns on Vietnam's seas and islands, strengthened political and ideological education among personnel, and effectively implemented the nationwide "I Love My Homeland's Sea and Islands" competition.
