Every Lunar New Year, overseas Vietnamese around the world return to Vietnam for the Homeland Spring program, where they share their love, trust, and aspirations for the homeland.
A vital resource for national strength
As Vietnam enters a new era of development, the meeting on Sunday in Hanoi carried special significance. It was attended by a delegation representing more than 6.5 million Vietnamese living, working, and studying in over 130 countries and territories. Party General Secretary To Lam said Vietnam’s major achievements in recent years, particularly in 2025, were made possible by the important contributions of Vietnamese people at home and overseas.
According to the Party leader, these accomplishments demonstrated great national unity and reconciliation, and reaffirmed the timeless truth that “Vietnam is one, and the Vietnamese people are one.” Upholding a consistent philosophy that makes people the foundation, the center, the master, and the ultimate goal while also serving as the driving force and resource for development, the General Secretary emphasized that overseas Vietnamese are an inseparable part of the nation and a particularly important resource within the great national unity bloc in the new development era.

Mr. To Lam said: “The Party and the State always welcome and create favorable conditions for overseas Vietnamese experts, intellectuals, scientists, and entrepreneurs to contribute even more to national development, especially in key sectors for the new stage of growth. The directions and priorities are already set. We must move fast and even take shortcuts and leapfrog where possible.”
The Party General Secretary’s message in the early days of spring 2026 enhances outreach to Vietnamese living abroad and concretizes a strategic mindset that was forged and elevated in the draft documents of the 14th National Party Congress, which emphasized that great national unity is the primary driving force and the internal strength enabling Vietnam to break through.
Forging trust and aspiration
Homeland Spring 2026 is taking place with Vietnam aiming to reinforce internal strength, enhance autonomy, and elevate its national standing in a volatile world. In this context, overseas Vietnamese are affirming their role as bridges of friendship between Vietnam and their host countries and as valuable sources of knowledge, technology, investment, and culture.
Ho Van Lam, President of the Vietnamese Association in Thailand, said: "Overseas Vietnamese want more channels of information connectivity and regular dialogue to harness the community’s intellectual resources, experience, and potential in support of socio-economic development in the homeland."
Upon their return, overseas Vietnamese bring with them stories of integration, creativity, and contribution, and a spirit of unity, understanding, and shared purpose. The bond between those at home and abroad is nurtured by sentiment and trust in Vietnam’s development path.
Nguyen Trung Kien, Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, said: The Homeland Spring 2026 program, themed ‘Aspiration for Peace and Prosperity,’ conveys the outcomes of the 14th National Party Congress and the subsequent implementation of its resolution. In this effort, the role of overseas Vietnamese is extremely important.
Amid global uncertainties and intense technological competition, Vietnam has chosen to rise through convergence, bringing together the intellect of overseas Vietnamese and domestic aspirations, and blending patriotic tradition with innovative thinking. When the great national unity bloc is built on trust, respect, and shared goals, it becomes an unparalleled source of strength. History has shown that when the people stand united, the nation prospers. As new opportunities unfold, the bonds linking millions of Vietnamese hearts across five continents will be the strongest guarantee for Vietnam to navigate challenges, and become a strong, self-reliant country and a responsible, trusted partner internationally.
