(VOVWORLD) - The Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee on Friday held a New Year gathering with around 1,000 overseas Vietnamese.

At the event, Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc extended his Lunar New Year wishes to the overseas Vietnamese community and praised their contributions to the city's development in recent years.
There are 6 million overseas Vietnamese living and working in more than 130 countries and territories around the world. They can offer valuable resources of knowledge, management experience, technology, finance, and international networking.

Mr. Duoc said: “We are implementing policies that aim to effectively utilize overseas remittances to HCMC until 2030. The city is effectively accelerating administrative reform, and improving its business environment in a transparent, stable, favorable manner while protecting investors' legitimate rights and interests. HCMC consider the overseas Vietnamese community a resource and the co-master of our development. They are our long-term partner and co-creators of the city’s future."

At the event, the HCMC People's Committee presented certificates of merit to 4 collectives and 6 individuals for their outstanding contributions to overseas Vietnamese affairs.
