(VOVWORLD) - 25 countries have agreed to join the US-led Board of Peace, the Times of Israel quoted a US official as saying on Tuesday.
Most of those countries are from the Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia, South America, and Southeast Asia. Others have yet to respond to the invitation, including China, India, the European Union, Russia, and Singapore.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday called for Hamas to be fully disarmed and for Gaza to be demilitarized without delay in the next phase of the ceasefire. His statement came after the Israel Defense Forces retrieved the remains of police officer Ran Gvili from northern Gaza. Gvili was the last hostage handed over by Hamas under the first phase of the ceasefire agreed last October.
Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem affirmed Hamas’s commitment to the US plan, saying Hamas will adhere to all aspects of the deal, including facilitating the work of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza.
