(VOVWORLD) - The 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam opened in Hanoi on Tuesday, January 20, marking a turning point in national development. The Congress highlights several breakthroughs in the Party’s leadership thinking, including, for the first time, the integration of three key documents to orient a new development model, while major strategic resolutions were field-tested prior to being presented at the meeting.

Tran Thi Nhi Ha, Deputy Head of the Committee for People's Aspirations and Supervision of the National Assembly, said that the Political Report—the central document of the Congress—has been consistently integrated from three separate reports, reflecting the Party’s innovative approach.
“The highlight of this report is the integration of the political report, the socio-economic report, and the Party building report. This ensures consistency, brevity, and clarity, making it easy to understand, implement, and remember,” said Ha.

Associate Professor Dr. Bui Dinh Phong of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics said he is impressed by the strong determination for action demonstrated in the draft documents.
“This is the first time the Political Report includes a specific action program that clearly outlines the responsibilities of different divisions, commissions, and organizations of the Party, detailing resources, timelines for completion, and reporting mechanisms,” said Phong, adding, “These will serve as benchmarks for evaluation. With such innovations, I highly expect the 14th Congress to deliver major breakthroughs.”
Professor Dr. Phan Xuan Son of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics emphasized the role of the private sector as one of the new features of the 14th Congress.
“Each stage, and even each Congress term, brings new innovations. At the 14th Congress, a key highlight is the role of the private sector. Moving from a position of being denied, restricted, and then acknowledged as equal to other economic sectors, the private sector is now viewed, in both theory and perception, as a most important driver of the national economy,” Son noted.

Nguyen Duc Ha, former Head of the Grassroots Party Organization Department under the Party Central Committee’s Organization Commission, praised the draft documents for the first time explicitly identifying environmental protection as a central task, reflecting the Party’s strategic vision for sustainable development.
According to Ha, “The documents presented at the 14th Congress add the phrase ‘environmental protection.’ So, not only is socio-economic development a central task, but environmental protection is also a central task. I believe that even just adding those four words clearly reflects our viewpoint, guiding principles, and goals, not only in the short term but also in the long term.”
With many groundbreaking new ideas, the 14th National Party Congress is opening a new era, when the determination to act for the benefit of the country and the people is the greatest measure.
Since its inception in 1930, the Communist Party of Vietnam has held 14 Congresses. Notable milestones include:
The 1st Congress was held from March 27 to 31, 1935 in Macau, China.
The 4th Congress from December 14 to 20, 1976, was the first Congress after national reunification, held in Hanoi.
The 6th Congress from December 15 to 18, 1986, launched the Doi Moi (Renewal) process.
The 7th Congress from June 24 to 27, 1991, adopted the Platform for National Construction in the Transition Period to Socialism.
The 8th Congress from June 28 to July 1, 1996, marked the transition to promote national industrialisation and modernisation.
The 13th Congress from January 25 to February 1, 2021, set dual "millennium goals": By 2030, Vietnam aims to become a developing country with modern industry and upper-middle income. By 2045, Vietnam aims to become a developed, high-income country.
The 14th Congress, currently underway in Hanoi, is themed: “Under the glorious flag of the Party, fully harnessing unity and consensus to successfully achieve national development goals through 2030; with self-reliance, resilience, and confidence, advancing strongly into the era of national rise, for peace, independence, democracy, prosperity, affluence, civilization, and happiness, and steadfastly moving toward socialism.” Its motto is: "Solidarity - Democracy - Discipline - Breakthrough - Development".
