EU countries not ready to give Ukraine date for membership

(VOVWORLD) - European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said on Sunday she felt that EU governments were not ready to give Ukraine a date for membership.

"There's a lot of work to be done", said Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, at the Munich Security Conference (MSC) in Germany.

Her remarks followed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's call for a fixed deadline for Kyiv's EU accession. Ukraine was granted EU candidate status back in June 2022.

On Saturday, President Zelensky said Ukrainian negotiators have received a reference frameworks for Ukraine's upcoming trilateral talks with Russia and the US. Kyiv has said security guarantees is its key priority.

The trilateral talks will take place in Geneva, Switzerland, on Tuesday and Wednesday.
