Singh was born in 1932 in Gah village in what is now Pakistan. He served as Prime Minister for two terms from 2004 to 2014,  leading a coalition government under the Congress party-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA). His 10 years of leadership made him the third-longest-serving Prime Minister in Indian history after Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi.

Singh's legacy is tied to the transformative economic reforms he initiated during his tenure as Finance Minister in 1991. These reforms not only helped liberalize the Indian economy but also paved the way for India's global integration in the following years.
