The PII provides an overview of the current status of the socio-economic development model based on science, technology, and innovation in each locality.
Hanoi topped the list with 60.76 points, followed by HCMC, Hai Phong city, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Da Nang, Quang Ninh, Can Tho, Binh Duong, Thai Nguyen, and Bac Giang. Cao Bang province still had the lowest score, 23.95, ranking 63rd.
According to Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Hoang Minh, the results show the suitability and similarity in the socio-economic development status of localities under which the leading group consists of localities with favorable natural and geographical conditions, industry, construction, and services accounting for a high economic proportion, and numerous industrial parks, developed infrastructure, and scientific, technological and innovation activities.
Minh said the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has praised Vietnam's PII and considers it a model for other countries in the world to follow in developing a local innovation index based on the Global Innovation Index.
