The bicycle lane is separated from pedestrian and motor traffic and is designed for a speed of 20 kilometers per hour, with a maximum gradient of 4%.
The project cost 540,000 USD, began in early October 2025, and was completed about one month ahead of schedule. After trying out the lane, Nguyen Dinh Tinh, a resident of Binh Hung Hoa Ward, said that cycling is much safer when other vehicles stay out of the lane. "I think this model should be expanded to improve safety for cyclists”, he added.
Vo Khanh Hung, Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Construction, said bike-only lanes help separate cyclists from fast-moving traffic and are a trend in modern cities.
"As the city grows, we hope to see more pedestrian streets and bike routes", Hung said, adding that this will improve transport links and make it easier for people to get around, including by bicycle.
Local authorities said they will monitor the new bike lane and make adjustments if needed, with a focus on cyclist safety.
