(VOVWORLD) - Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tuesday that a deal to avoid a military conflict with the US is within reach, two days before talks between the two countries are due to resume in Geneva.
"We have a historic opportunity to strike an unprecedented agreement that addresses mutual concerns and achieves mutual interests," Araghchi said in a social media post.
In his post, Araghchi vowed that Iran will "under no circumstances ever develop a nuclear weapon," but insisted on its right to "harness dividends of peaceful nuclear technology".
Iran and the US held 5 rounds of nuclear talks last year without a breakthrough. Tensions instead escalated after Israel launched an unprecedented attack on Iran in June, triggering a 12-day conflict and a subsequent US strike. The upcoming talks in Geneva, the third round of talks this month, will follow recent large-scale US military deployments in the region and a warning from President Donald Trump that Washington may attack Iran if no agreement is reached.
