(VOVWORLD) - Iran will treat any attack as an all-out war against it, Reuters quoted a senior Iranian official as saying on Friday, ahead of the arrival of a US military aircraft carrier strike group and other assets in the Middle East in the coming days.
Iran’s military is ready for the worst-case scenario and everything is on high alert, said the senior Iranian official, speaking on condition of anonymity.
US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that the United States had an "armada" heading toward Iran. The US military staged a major buildup last year ahead of its June strikes against Iran's nuclear program.
The US on Friday imposed a new round of sanctions targeting nine oil tankers and eight entities, saying the measures are aimed at a shipping network alleged to be helping Tehran evade sanctions, particularly in the export of crude oil.
