Following directions from Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha at the 31st online meeting on Tuesday of the National Steering Committee on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, the provincial People’s Committee  tasked the Department of Agriculture and Environment with instructing the Sub-Department of Fisheries and Seas and Islands to promptly compile a comprehensive list of ineligible fishing vessels by commune.

The list must include vessel registration numbers, owners’ names, VNeID identification codes, addresses, and contact phone numbers, and be sent to local authorities on Thursday for strict monitoring and management.

Vessel owners with expired fishing licenses are required to quickly complete renewal procedures in accordance with regulations, ensuring updates are synchronized with the national fisheries database.

Chairpersons of commune- and ward-level People’s Committees, along with authorities in Phu Quy Special Zone, must review and classify all ineligible vessels, require them to dock at designated fishing ports or mooring areas, publicly post information within communities, mark and seal vessels, remove fishing gear and equipment, and strictly prohibit them from putting to sea. This task must be completed before March 2.

The Provincial Military Command and the Border Guard Command have also been instructed to tighten control over vessels entering and leaving ports, including informal landing sites; strictly prevent ineligible vessels from engaging in fishing activities; and conduct patrols and inspections at river mouths and coastal areas, with firm penalties imposed on violations.
