Writing on Telegram, Zelensky confirmed that he had spoken to his US counterpart.

Zelensky said his call with Trump "discussed the issues that our representatives will address on Thursday in Geneva during the bilateral meeting, as well as preparations for the next meeting of the full negotiating teams in a trilateral format between the US, Russia, and Ukraine at the very beginning of March".

He said he expects the upcoming meeting will create an opportunity to move talks to the leaders' level, with President Trump supporting this sequence of steps.

Although the current negotiations remain deadlocked, particularly over the issue of Donbass, Zelensky reiterated that a direct meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin is necessary to resolve the most complex outstanding issues.
