The report highlights major developments and trends shaping the current global security and political landscape. It identified US President Donald Trump as one of the most influential leaders on recent changes to international cooperation frameworks and rules.

At a press conference in Berlin, MSC Chairman Wolfgang Ischinger said transatlantic relations have seen divergences since President Trump began his second term in office, "raising difficult questions about the future of transatlantic and broader international cooperation". The report also noted declining public trust in institutions in some Western countries and the rise of political forces pursuing far-reaching changes.

The report was released ahead of MSC 2026, scheduled to take place from Friday to Sunday in Munich, Bavaria. The conference will bring together 65 world leaders and nearly 100 foreign and defense ministers, military officials, and senior policymakers. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky are expected to attend.
