In an interview with Channel One, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed that Moscow and Washington are negotiating the Nord Stream pipelines. Lavrov said that while significant disagreements remain, resuming a stable energy supply to Europe is in the interest of not only Russia and the US but also the broader region.

His statement has fueled speculation of a potential shift in Western energy policies, especially as energy prices in Europe are significantly higher than in the US.

Although Russia and the US are discussing the Nord Stream gas pipeline, the EU has maintained a tough stance in refusing Russia’s fuel.
The European Commission’s spokesperson for climate action and energy, Anna-Kaisa Itkonen, said that resuming the Nord Stream pipeline project is not in the EU’s interest because it does not help diversify the bloc’s energy supply sources.
