South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol arrested

(VOVWORLD) - South Korean investigative agencies detained impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol on Wednesday on charges of rebellion stemming from his short-lived declaration of martial law in December.

This marks the first time a sitting South Korean president has been arrested.

Over 3,000 police and anti-corruption investigators converged on the Presidential Palace to execute the arrest warrant. Yoon's lawyers said that efforts to arrest Yoon were illegal.
