In a live broadcast on state TV, a man in military uniform, surrounded by armed guards, read a statement referred to as “Statement No. 1,” announcing the seizure of the capital. Opposition groups announced that they have released all prisoners.

Earlier reports from Western media suggested, though unverified, that Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad may have fled the country.

The White House released a statement indicating that President Joe Biden is closely following the developments in Syria and remains in contact with regional partners.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told the press that the opposition's move was a long-planned effort aiming to shift the balance of power. He reaffirmed Moscow's commitment to supporting the Syrian government, stating, “We will oppose this by all means.”

Meanwhile, Jordan issued a statement underscoring the importance of maintaining stability and security in Syria amid the unfolding crisis.
