Syrian state TV broadcasts opposition victory, Iranian embassy in Damascus attacked
(VOVWORLD) - Syrian state television on Sunday aired a declaration of victory by opposition forces and the collapse of President Bashar al-Assad's regime.

The broadcast followed an appearance by an opposition representative on state TV reading "Statement No. 1," in which he confirmed that opposition groups had seized control of the capital, Damascus.
In related developments, Iran's Press TV reported that the Syrian opposition had attacked the Iranian embassy in Damascus. The opposition also issued a statement claiming responsibility for an assault on Kurdish forces in the northern Syrian town of Manbij.
Responding to the unfolding crisis, UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen expressed readiness to assist the Syrian people in the journey toward a stable, inclusive future . He urged all Syrians to prioritize dialogue, unity, and adherence to international humanitarian law and human rights in the national reconstruction process.
From the United States, Pentagon official Daniel Shapiro reaffirmed that the US will continue to take necessary measures to protect its forces and allies in the region and maintain a presence in eastern Syria to prevent the resurgence of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS).
