US president meets Venezuelan opposition leader
(VOVWORLD) -US President Donald Trump on Thursday had his first in-person meeting with Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Machado at the White House, a move that may influence how Washington shapes the political future of the South American nation.
Machado described the more than one-hour meeting as "excellent," but did not disclose further details.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said President Trump was looking forward to the meeting with Machado. But she also said the meeting didn’t mean Trump’s opinion of her changed, calling it “a realistic assessment.”
The former administration of President Maduro is now still governing Venezuela. Venezuela’s interim authorities have been fully cooperating with the Trump administration, Leavitt said.
