The same day, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said Russia has invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow and will guarantee his security there.
“The main thing is that these contacts are well prepared and focused on achieving specific positive results,” Ushakov said. According to Ushakov, US President Donald Trump has suggested a possible meeting between Putin and Zelensky several times during telephone conversations.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that if a security guarantee agreement is signed, the US will not send troops to Ukraine, but a small European military contingent may be deployed there. "Future security guarantees for Ukraine will be supported by the US, but only European military personnel will be on the ground," he said.
