(VOVWORLD) - Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the UN, Nguyen Hoang Nguyen, welcomed the progress achieved in Phase I and the launch of Phase II of the “Comprehensive Plan for Ending the Conflict in Gaza.”

At the UN Security Council’s open debate on Wednesday on the situation in the Middle East and Palestine, chaired by Somalia, Mr. Nguyen, as President of the UNSC for January 2026, said Resolution 2803 adopted November 17, 2025, affirms the UNSC’s responsibility for ensuring the implementation of this initiative in line with international law, the UN Charter, and the commitments of the parties concerned.
Vietnam called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint, prioritize the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, comply with UN resolutions and provisional measures of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
Mr. Nguyen reaffirmed Vietnam’s support for the central role of the UN and the UNSC, in resolving conflicts through peaceful means on the basis of respect for independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

Mr. Nguyen reiterated that Vietnam consistently supports the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and efforts to implement the two-State solution.
In this spirit, and based on its consistent principle, Vietnam’s decision to join the Board of Peace illustrates its desire to make practical contributions to the international community’s common effort to advance a just and sustainable solution to the Gaza conflict, the reconstruction of Gaza, and the Middle East peace process, in accordance with international law, the UN Charter, and relevant resolutions, including UNSC Resolution 2803.
