Deputy Foreign Minister Do Hung Viet said that, after 2 years as a member of the Council, Vietnam prioritized protecting vulnerable groups and promoting gender equality, labor rights, the right to health care, and the right to education.

Vietnam made its mark on the Council by initiating resolutions on the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the 30th anniversary of the Vienna Declaration and Program of Action (VDPA), and Climate Change and Human Rights.

Vietnam's remarkable socio-economic achievements during 40 years of renewal, Mr. Viet said, were the result of people-centered development policies, comprehensive human rights promotion, and great efforts by the Vietnamese people at home and abroad.

He asked countries to support Vietnam's candidacy and promised that, if elected, Vietnam will continue to participate actively, constructively, and responsibly and will strive to promote the common goals of the HRC to ensure better human rights for people around the world.
