(VOVWORLD) - The Huynh Thuy Le ancient house on Nguyen Hue road, Sa Dec town, in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap, was recognized as a national relic site in 2009. It is famous for a unique mixture of East-West architecture. The house was the setting of a passionate love affair between its owner Huynh Thuy Le and Marguerite Duras – a well-known French writer who penned the famous novel L’Amant (The Lover).

(VOVWORLD) - The Tay Dang communal house was recognized as a special national relic site in late 2013. The structure, with its exceptional architecture, is a museum of 16th century Vietnamese folk arts.

(VOVWORLD) - Thien Mu pagoda, which is also known as Linh Mu, lies on a hill overlooking the picturesque Huong (Perfume) river in Hue city in central Vietnam. The pagoda was built in 1601 under the reign of Lord Nguyen Hoang, the first of the Nguyen Lords who ruled the southern provinces of Vietnam. Featuring unique architecture, Thien Mu pagoda is one of the oldest and holiest sites in Hue – the former imperial capital of Vietnam.

(VOVWORLD) - Doi Son pagoda, which literally translates to ‘pagoda on the Doi mountain,’ is a cultural symbol of Ha Nam province and a sacred place in the Red River Delta. It is one of the biggest Buddhist centers in northern Vietnam.

(VOVWORLD) - Gian Gua in Phong Dien district, Can Tho city, was recognized as an historical relic in 2013. “Gua” is a typical tree of the Mekong Delta regional ecology, similar to the fig tree, and “Gian” is the term for its canopy. The region used to house a revolutionary base during Vietnam’s resistance wars and is associated with land reclamation in the 19th century.

(VOVWORLD) - Hanoi was conferred the “City for Peace” prize by UNESCO during a ceremony in Bolivia’s capital, La Paz, in 1999. The award recognized Hanoi’s efforts to foster peace, development and social cohesion, whilst respecting the city’s treasured traditions. In this week’s Discovery Vietnam, we will ask experts and Hanoians what the title means and look at how modern Hanoi has evolved, twenty years on.
