(VOVworld) – Truc Linh from Can Tho province has been a performing artist for more than 50 years. At the age of 65, she is tirelessly contributing to reformed theater and amateur singing and training young artists.

Despite her age, Emeritus artist Truc Linh still leads a class of more than 30 amateur singers in Can Tho city. Linh has helped many achieve success on the stage, at art festivals, and in competitions. For Linh, inspiring young people and teaching them to perform is what makes her happy.
“I want to train young artists so that they can preserve and develop the art of amateur singing, and reformed theatre”, Linh said.

Truc Linh was born in 1951 in Chau Thanh district, Tien Giang province, the cradle of amateur singing in the southern region. At the age of 10, she was already familiar with amateur singing and reformed theater. 2 years later, she was admitted to an art troupe led by musician Xuan Hong. She continued to develop her vocal technique and performed for soldiers during the war. Linh quickly became one of the most popular artists on the radio and on Vietnam’s reformed theater stage. Linh made a deep impression in the role of national hero Nguyen Thi Hanh in a reformed theater play written by Minh Khoa and later studied acting formally and worked for the art troupe of military zone 9. After Vietnam was reunified in 1975, Truc Linh began teaching and developing the art of amateur singing in the Mekong River Delta. Linh was recognized as an Emeritus Artist in 1993. “Artist Truc Linh has been very active in teaching and promoting amateur singing. She has trained many skilled artists in this genre”, said Emeritus artist Huynh Khai, Head of the Vietnamese Traditional Music Department at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music.

Although retired, artist Truc Linh is still busy writing scripts for reformed theater, arranging amateur singing performances, and training young artists.
