They are Lo village, a centuries-old fishing village in Dak Lak province, Cat Cat community tourism village of Lao Cai province, Bay Mau-Cam Thanh coconut village of Da Nang city, Mang Den treehouse village of Quang Ngai province, and Huu Lien community tourism village of Lang Son province.
The winners will be announced in Q4 of 2026.
The Best Tourism Villages award is an initiative launched in 2021 by the World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) to honor “rural destinations that demonstrate excellence in preserving cultural and natural heritage, strengthening community-based values and advancing sustainability”. Evaluation is based on performance across multiple areas covering economic, social and environmental sustainability dimensions, UN Tourism said.
“I really hope Lo village will receive the UN Tourism recognition. Winning this award would help us develop community-based tourism in the coastal regions of Dak Lak and make Lo village a well-known tourism brand among international tourists, like Lo Lo Chai village in Ha Giang province. With proper planning, I'm sure more villages in Dak Lak will be recognized in the future,” said Le Phuc Long, Deputy Director of the Dak Lak provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
