In an interview with the Vietnam News Agency’s correspondent, Vietnamese Ambassador to Singapore Tran Phuoc Anh said the visit carries special significance. It will be the first time a Vietnamese Party General Secretary and State President is to attend and deliver a keynote speech at the Shangri-La Dialogue, one of the region’s most important security forums.

This reflects the high regard the forum’s organizers and the international community hold for Vietnam, Anh said. It also demonstrates the world’s interest in hearing Vietnam’s ideas, perspectives, and approaches to regional and global security and defense issues.

Ambassador Anh said Vietnam-Singapore trade reached a record high of 31.3 billion USD last year, a nearly 25% increase from 2024. Singapore also maintained its position as Vietnam’s second-largest foreign investor, with cumulative foreign direct investment totaling 91.6 billion USD.
