Nguyen Huu Chinh, President of the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin, highlighted the devastating and long-lasting consequences of chemical warfare. During the ten-year period from 1961 to 1971, the US military sprayed defoliants over one-quarter of southern Vietnam. 4.8 million people were exposed to toxic chemicals, including 3.1 million direct victims.
Mr Chinh said: “Our most important task in advising the Party and the State is to continue the "Journey to ease the pain of Agent Orange victims". The Association has supported the elimination of temporary and dilapidated housing for 3,408 affected families, including the construction of 1,912 new homes and the repair of 1,496 others. This demonstrates that Agent Orange victims have continued to receive the Party's and the State's special care and support.”
Since its establishment on 10 January 2004, the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin has mobilised over 193.4 million USD to support victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin.
