The disaster struck on Wednesday afternoon following the collapse of a glacier, triggering a torrent of mud, rock, and water that surged into the Nepal-China border region.
In Nepal, an estimated 910 people—including 517 foreign tourists—are currently unreachable. The missing individuals hail from more than 30 countries. Preliminary identification includes 179 Indian citizens, 90 Americans, 53 Ukrainians, 51 Malaysians, 35 Australians, 33 Britons, and 25 Canadians.
China has reported three fatalities and 558 missing persons, including 260 foreign nationals. Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Thursday arrived at the scene to oversee rescue and relief operations.
That same day, Nepalese Prime Minister Balendra Shah inspected some of the hardest-hit areas and directed local officials to provide immediate assistance to displaced families and to clear blocked roads.
