At a regular press briefing on Thursday, Chinese Commerce Ministry spokesperson He Yadong said the two sides had held “frank, in-depth and constructive” discussions based on understandings reached by their leaders and the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation.
According to China, key issues included implementing previous understandings, arrangements for reciprocal tariff reductions, establishing trade and investment councils, and extending agreements reached during the previous economic and trade consultations in Kuala Lumpur.
Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who led their respective delegations, also held their first dialogue on artificial intelligence. Beijing has not disclosed details or outcomes of the discussion.
China’s Commerce Ministry said it would maintain close communication with Washington to advance follow-up work under the bilateral economic and trade consultation mechanism.
