The disaster killed 240 people and has left more than 3,800 missing. The epicenter of the earthquake, which shook cities in Colombia's coffee-growing region and Pacific coast, was near San Jose del Palmar in Choco province.
The national emergency response agency estimated that 1,495 people had been injured and the earthquake had affected 350 municipalities in 12 provinces. At least 5,000 homes were damaged.
Local authorities warned that the scale of the destruction could be even greater, as communications networks are still down in some rural areas. Colombia's President convened an emergency meeting to direct recovery and relief efforts.
The US administration said Tuesday it would deploy a Disaster Assistance Response Team to Colombia to assist local authorities.
