The core of Dung Quat Economic Zone is Dung Quat Oil Refinery. The refinery has been operating since 2009, contributing over 10 billion USD to the state budget. It is expanded and upgraded with a total investment of over 4.5 billion USD, aiming to become a national petrochemical and energy refining center by 2030.
The Deputy PM was speaking at the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Management Board of Dung Quat Economic Zone and Quang Ngai Industrial Parks in Quang Ngai province.
He suggested that Quang Ngai change how it attracts investment by shifting from wide-ranging projects to high-tech, clean, and high-value options that create jobs. Mr. Tuc stressed the need to build clean energy and heavy industry ecosystems, including petrochemicals, green hydrogen, sustainable aviation fuel, high-grade steel, and new materials.
“I urge Quang Ngai province, the Management Board of the Dung Quat Economic Zone and Quang Ngai Industrial Zones, along with relevant ministries and sectors, to focus on transitioning toward a green and circular economic model. A concrete roadmap must be devised to upgrade and transform existing industrial zones into eco-industrial parks that meet rigorous environmental and global market standards, particularly regarding investment attraction,” Mr. Tuc said.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the need to leverage advantages in deep-water port facilities, road, rail, and air transport, as well as multimodal logistics, to develop Dung Quat into a dynamic marine economic hub.
