Pyongyang opposed plans to continue the three countries' multi-domain military exercise, Freedom Edge, and other joint drills. It accused the three allies of expanding military cooperation to pursue geopolitical goals.
DPRK said the stronger military partnership could raise the risk of conflict in the region. It also said it would continue to strengthen its defence capabilities, including its nuclear deterrent, to respond to what it called security threats.
The statement came after military officials from South Korea, the United States, and Japan agreed to deepen security cooperation and continue joint exercises, including Freedom Edge, to improve their ability to respond to regional security challenges.
