In his opening remarks, Union President Luong Quoc Doan said 3.4 million farming households have been recognized for excellence in production and business, and 5,000 agricultural models have successfully applied technological advances. Farmers have played an active role in national target programs, particularly in environmental protection and rural development. Their contributions include the construction and upgrading of more than 3,500 kilometers of rural roads and irrigation canals.
“Farmers’ Unions at all levels must continue to renew their operations, improve the quality and effectiveness of their activities, and better represent and protect farmers’ legitimate rights and interests. They must serve as a bridge between farmers and the Party and State, actively participate in Party and political system building, strengthen national unity, and promote international integration and people-to-people diplomacy,” said Mr. Doan.
Addressing the Congress, Permanent Member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Tran Cam Tu said farmers are a pillar of Vietnam’s economy, helping to ensure food security and supporting the country's rise as a leading agricultural exporter. He reaffirmed the Party’s goal of developing high-tech, ecological, and circular agriculture, building modern rural areas, boosting competitiveness and added value, and fostering a modern, well-developed farmers class.
“It is essential to continue streamlining and strengthening the Union's operations, improving the quality of its staff, and reducing bureaucracy and formalistic practices. Farmers will remain at the center of development efforts, supported through stronger agricultural value chains, accelerated digital transformation, and higher product quality and competitiveness to meet market demands,” said Mr. Tu.
He urged the Union to effectively implement agricultural and rural development programs, while expanding farmers' access to insurance, vocational training, and collective economic initiatives.
