At the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, Mr. To Lam will lead a high-level Vietnamese delegation to France from September 9 to 12. The visit comes as the two countries work to translate their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, established in 2024, into concrete cooperation, while further highlighting Vietnam’s important role as a bridge between France and the wider Indo-Pacific region.
The Élysée said a key focus of the visit will be to turn bilateral commitments into practical cooperation that strengthens the strategic autonomy of both countries.
Julie Le Saos, French President Emmanuel Macron’s adviser for Asia-Pacific and the Americas, said: “The visit aims to advance the substantive implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership that the two countries upgraded in 2024. This cooperation will not only help strengthen the strategic autonomy of both sides, but also demonstrate France’s commitment to working with Vietnam to develop industrial capacity and defense technologies, as well as future-oriented sectors such as space technology, transport infrastructure, energy, healthcare, innovation, and high-quality human resources development.”
The two leaders are expected to discuss global hotspots and strategic challenges, including regional security and respect for international law, particularly the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, in maintaining peace, stability and maritime security in the East Sea.
