The worst-hit area was Muong Than commune, where one person was killed and six remain missing. Floodwaters swept away 13 houses, damaged many others, inundated about 200 hectares of crops and cut off several roads, forcing residents to evacuate.

The provincial administration has mobilized police, military personnel, militia forces and local rescue teams to search for the missing and assist affected communities.

Colonel Hoang Van Ky, Chief of Staff of the Lai Chau Provincial Military Command, said: “350 officers and soldiers had been deployed despite severe weather and blocked roads. Rescue teams successfully evacuated residents and property from high-risk areas, while efforts continue to reach isolated villages once flood conditions improve.”

Although rainfall eased on Friday evening, authorities remain on 24-hour alert as search operations and disaster recovery continue.
