The event attracted members of the Tay, Nung, and Dao ethnic communities, who donned colorful traditional costumes and visitors from all walks of life.
This year's theme is "Pai Toong Nen Duyen - Pay Tai Nghia Tinh", which in Dao language, expresses filial piety and family bonds (Pai Toong means a wedding ceremony in Dao language, and Pay Tai is a custom of the Tay ethnic group, where the husband visits his wife's family during the full moon of the 7th lunar month).
The Dao and Tay are the two biggest communities in Lam Thuong commune. The festival was to honor ethnic cultures, conveys a message of love, family bond, and solidarity among members of the community, and promote local products, beauty, and traditional cultures.
Chairman of Lam Thuong People's Committee, Tran Quoc Tuan, said: "The festival aims to promote the cultural identities of the ethnic groups in Lam Thuong Commune, Lao Cai Province. It is inspired by four major festivals: the Cac Ken festival, the fire dance festival, the Ban Pho Communal House, and the new Pay Tai festival. Local people were involved in all stages of preparation. They helped set up stalls, performed, and participated in folk games."
"This place is beautiful and has a lot of activities and games. This is my first time coming here and I can feel its uniqueness," Visitor Tran Quynh Nga said.
"The people here are enthusiastic and friendly. I can see a lot of stilt houses and the air is fresh. The food is delicious too, especially the duck meat. I hope I can come back here next year," another visitor Duong Thi Diep added.
