Speaking at the event, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong said bilateral trade has surpassed 15 billion USD and is moving toward the target of 20 billion USD. Australia is strongly implementing its “Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040,” opening up numerous opportunities to deepen strategic connectivity with Vietnam in trade, investment, education, innovation, and green transition.

Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Gillian Bird reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to advancing substantive economic cooperation through the Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040, investment support mechanisms, business connectivity initiatives, and innovation-driven programs.

Australia is also implementing various programs to support Vietnam in energy transition, climate adaptation in the Mekong Delta, low-emission agriculture development, and economic resilience.

Emma McDonald, Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner at the Australia Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), said it's important to understand the market and utilize the help available, whether that be through Austrade: "We have a Go Global toolkit for Australian businesses to make sure that your product is export ready. For investment, it is a case of understanding whether to speak to Austrade."

"We've got a deal team set up in Ho Chi Minh City as well to provide assistance. We have onshore teams in Australia. State and territory governments are really helpful for that, deep understanding of the network in conjunction with Austrade, and also some really important, groups such as Chambers of Commerce. So AusCham is a, very important connector and can help you connect with some businesses within Vietnam and introduce you to Australian businesses that have been successful here," said Ms. Emma.

In the first four months of 2026, Australian investors launched 15 new projects in Ho Chi Minh City with total registered capital of 352,000 USD. To date, Australia has 453 valid projects in HCM City with total investment capital of 773 million USD, ranking 20th among 137 countries and territories investing in Ho Chi Minh City.
