According to NATO, the Forward Land Forces (FLF), a multinational force established in Finland in 2024, has officially become operational alongside a battle group of approximately 600 troops stationed in Boden, northern Sweden.
The battle group will operate under the coordination of a multinational headquarters located in Rovaniemi, northern Finland, about 250 kilometers northeast of Boden.
Both locations form part of NATO’s emerging Arctic defense corridor in the strategically important High North region.
Finnish Defense Minister Antti Hakkanen described the deployment of the FLF as a significant step toward reinforcing security along NATO’s northern flank.
The United Kingdom, France, Italy, Denmark and Iceland have already announced their participation in developing the FLF in Finland, while Norway has also expressed interest in contributing to the force.
