The statement described Israel’s actions as a blatant violation of international law, including humanitarian law. The countries called on Israel to immediately release the activists and respect their rights.
Earlier, Israel confirmed that its navy had intercepted the “Global Sumud Flotilla” in the Mediterranean Sea and detained eight activists, including Margaret Connolly, sister of Irish President Catherine Connolly.
On April 29, the Israeli navy also stopped another Gaza-bound flotilla in the Mediterranean and detained 175 international activists on board.
