Speaking at an event in Vinh Long province on Thursday marking Great National Unity Day and Vietnam Cultural Day, the Vietnamese top leader stressed the need to preserve cultural heritage and support the people who keep it alive. He called for greater efforts to preserve the Cham people's language, writing system, performing arts, traditional crafts, and community cultural spaces.
Mr. Lam said: “We must create favorable conditions for everyone to participate in, create and enjoy culture. Greater attention should be paid to children, older people, people with disabilities, disadvantaged families and residents in remote areas. Vietnam Culture Day is an occasion to open the doors of cultural institutions wider and bring cultural activities closer to the people."
"Each locality should adopt approaches suited to its own circumstances and encourage voluntary community participation. In particular, space must be created for young people to express their creativity, enabling them to inherit cultural heritage and contribute new values through their talents and the distinctive forms of expression of their generation,” said the top leader.
Mr. Lam urged the Vietnam Fatherland Front, its member organizations, religious leaders, and respected community figures to do more to strengthen solidarity at the grassroots level. He encouraged joint initiatives among ethnic and religious communities to build solidarity through shared activities and responsibilities.
At the event, he presented gifts to outstanding groups and families and attended a groundbreaking ceremony for a cultural center in Bau Son hamlet, Chau Thanh commune, Vinh Long province.
Earlier that morning, Mr. Lam and his delegation visited the family of Lieutenant General Son Cang, a Hero of the People's Armed Forces and former senior public security official. He previously served as Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Public Security's General Department II and police director of the former Tra Vinh province, now part of Vinh Long.
