The 5-day trip serves as an opportunity for Vietnam to comprehensively elevate its relations with Denmark, the EU, and Belgium. It marks a turning point toward more substantive and effective cooperation, underpinned by strong political determination and a shared strategic vision.
The state visit to Denmark by General Secretary and President Lam coincides with the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. Both sides are set to establish strategic directions and elevate the relationship for a new phase of development to make cooperation with Denmark a model for Vietnam’s partnership with a Nordic country.
Following the upgrade of bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the EU in January 2026, the visit by General Secretary and President Lam reaffirms Vietnam’s pioneering role as a key gateway for the ASEAN in its engagement with the EU. Both sides will deepen key pillars of cooperation—particularly in trade, investment, science and technology, and human resource development—thereby establishing the Vietnam–EU relationship as a model within ASEAN–EU cooperation.
The Belgium visit follows the State visit to Vietnam by King Philippe in April 2025, marking a significant shift in bilateral cooperation in sectors like science and technology, semiconductor chips, renewable energy, green agriculture, innovation, logistics, and smart port development.
