Chairing a meeting of the Steering Committee on reviewing 100 years of the Party’s leadership of the Vietnamese revolution, charting orientations for national development over the next 100 years, and reviewing 40 years of implementing the Political Platform on National Construction during the Transition to Socialism on Thursday, the Vietnamese top leader said Vietnam is entering a new stage of development with higher requirements for productivity, quality, self-reliance and people’s living standards.
He said the 100-year review must clarify the Party’s leadership of the revolution, its strategic choices and the lessons learned throughout the process.
The 40-year review, meanwhile, should examine the development of thinking and the implementation of the Political Platform, while further clarifying Vietnam’s socialist model and the development path appropriate to the country, he said.
The Vietnamese top leader stressed that the reviews must highlight the historical significance of achievements that have changed the nation’s destiny and assess the evolution of the Party’s leadership capacity, from the struggle to gain power to governing and leading national construction and defense.
He also called for a deeper examination of the lesson of mobilizing the people, develop theory through a review of the implementation of the Political Platform, shape a long-term vision, and enhance the Party's leadership capacity for the next century.
Mr. Lam said: “The two most important things we need to do are, first establishing a clear orientation for national development. Only when this orientation is agreed upon can we mobilize the strength of the people and secure the support of the people and the entire political system. Second, we must build people’s trust. Only then can we succeed. The Party sets the direction, and the people have trust. Few countries have such an advantage. The country’s planning must also have a 100-year vision with which we can envision what energy, infrastructure and people’s lives will look like at that time.”
Mr. Lam also stressed the responsibility to ensure that the wisdom accumulated throughout history continues to become a driving force for the country’s development.
He said the review should strengthen the Party’s political resolve, unleash the creativity of the people and lay a solid foundation for the country’s future development.
