Earlier this year, Trump put a waiver on countries buying sanctioned Russian oil. The waiver ran out on Wednesday, but the Trump administration did not say whether that meant the measures would be re-imposed. "We are looking at that," Trump told reporters.

The US President said he has had good talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy ‌on the sidelines of the Group of Seven (G7) meeting in France.

When asked about his thought on the conflict, Trump said he did not want to make comments that complicate the situation. "I'm trying to get it settled, and that doesn't make it easy," he added.

Earlier, President Trump met with President Zelensky but did not announce any new peace initiatives. The meeting, however, showed that both the US and Ukraine are seeking ways to balance military support for Kyiv with diplomatic efforts that aim at a long-term political solution.

The two discussed advancing negotiations to end the conflict. President Trump said he would do anything he could to promote peace, adding that the conflict "has been going on for far too long" and caused heavy losses for both sides.
