Iranian state media confirmed that many large explosions occurred in coastal areas, on the Persian Gulf, and the Strait of Hormuz. Mehr news agency said US weapons hit targets on Qeshm Island, near the Strait of Hormuz, including the village of Masan. The nearby Bandar Abbas port area was also hit by US missiles.
At least 6 large explosions were reported in the Hamidiyeh city area, Khuzestan province, southwest Iran, the source confirmed. There were major explosions in the Bushehr area, where Iran's only nuclear power plant is located.
The US military said it launched a sixth night of consecutive strikes on Iran on Thursday "to further degrade Iranian military capabilities."
Tehran has countered with missiles and drones targeted at US military bases in neighboring states including a recently expanded air base in Jordan that Iran said was used in a US attack on an Iranian children's cancer hospital on Wednesday night, Reuters reported.
